John Hall has been artist in residence at Barrow Island school since 2002, a unique arrangement whereby he has a permanent base in the school and in return devises delivers projects involving the school, other schools and the wider community including local allotment holders, local secondary schools, Health and housing groups, residents groups and music collectives.
These projects involve traditional art practices as well as video and digital sound editing, and have linked the school with other arts organisations locally and across the country such as Artgene, Grizedale Arts, The Sonic Arts Network, Hull Artlink Exchange and the Ashton Group Contemporary Theatre.
During 2007-8 John will be working with 6 Cumbrian schools as part the education element of his project “Sightlines: Football, Art and Community” with support from Arts Council England and Cumbria Arts in Education.
John works regularly with other schools and community groups on projects involving visual arts, video and digital sound. He works as an individual and in collaboration with other artists as a member of Bifocals 1999.
